Week 1 Recap

A Strong Start to the Season:

After two solid weeks of practice, our teams finally hit the court for their first tournament

of the season! Both our 12u and 13u Black and Gray squads showed exceptional effort and determination, laying the groundwork for growth in the weeks ahead.

12u: A Competitive Fight:

Our 12u team, consisting of a mix of 5th and 6th graders, faced tough competition throughout the tournament. Although they finished with a 1-2 record, each game was closely contested.

The effort, energy, and teamwork they displayed demonstrate that this group has the potential to evolve into a strong, cohesive unit. With additional practice and game experience, they’ll continue to build their confidence and execution on the court.

13u Black & Gray: Learning Through Experience:

Both of our 13u teams put together a solid weekend of play, focusing on the bigger picture: learning from mistakes, improving their game IQ, and competing at a high level. This season isn’t just about winning; it’s about growth, and the way they approached the game showed they’re on the right path.

As we conclude the first tournament, we’re eager to get back in the gym, address our mistakes, and prepare for the next challenge. The journey has just begun!

Week 2: Focusing on Fundamentals

With an off week from tournaments, our teams are dedicating time to enhance their skills, specifically making reads off the dribble and ensuring proper spacing. This focus is crucial as we develop our players’ abilities and game understanding.

  1. Our 5th and 6th graders faced challenges with injuries and illness but fought valiantly against silver-level competition at 12u. The 13u Gray team performed exceptionally well, winning every game of the tournament hosted by GTE, with standout contributions from Brit Skutvik and Max Aguayo.

  1. Meanwhile, the 13u Black team faced struggles but managed a spectacular second half in their last game, scoring 25 points after only managing 3 in the first half.

  1. Unfortunately, the 14u team dealt with a significant injury to Max Hune but continued to battle fiercely, launching a late-game surge on a 15-3 run, led by sharpshooter Alex Huynh, only to ultimately fall short. Overall, it was a solid weekend of hoops by these dedicated players!

Week 4: A Day of Support and Development

High school rosters have been finalized, with three 16u teams ready to compete at a high level. The youth programs took a break this weekend to support the Long Beach State Men’s basketball team as they hosted UCSB. It was a thrilling game that ended in a narrow two-point loss for the Beach.

Earlier in the day, our players toured the pyramid and even got to shoot on the court before the nation’s top men’s volleyball team took the court. A big thank you to everyone involved in making this weekend memorable, from Head Coach Chris Acker to their team managers. Following the exciting events, we had a short shootout session, ensuring our players got valuable reps in.
